Partnership with Schools

Connecting with students through community education.

We are pleased to provide K-12 educators teaching in the MGE service area with many options to engage students in energy education. We build upon the energy educational resources and services we provide customers by partnering with schools and educators to support their curriculum with energy-related activities for the next generation of energy stakeholders.

Educational materials and services

MGE provides the following educational materials and services at no charge to our school communities:

  • Powerline newsletter—Sign up to stay updated on MGE's educational offerings and activities.
  • Energy presentations with Power Pedal Bicycle, Model Wind Turbine or VR Goggles.
  • Workshops—Energy Conservation and Efficiency, Renewable Energy or New Energy Technologies. 
  • Switch to Safety—A program covering indoor and outdoor electric safety scenarios for fourth grade students at schools in MGE's electric service area, including follow-up materials for students and teachers. KEEP – Educational resources and teacher professional development

MGE also partners with the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) to provide professional development opportunities and standards-based energy education activities to educators and students in our service area. KEEP is a Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Since 1995, KEEP has been working with teachers, administrators and energy resource managers to increase and improve energy education in Wisconsin schools. KEEP is funded by six utilities in Wisconsin, including MGE.

  • Professional Development—Hone skills with in-person, virtual or in-service workshops related to energy issues facing Wisconsin students. Teachers whose schools are in MGE's service area can receive a substitute stipend of up to $150 to attend.
  • Lessons and Activities—Enhance curriculum with standards-based, interdisciplinary lessons that cover 59 energy-related concepts within five energy focus areas.
  • KEEP Energy Kits—Bring the classroom to life with hands-on resources that engage students in place-based learning using schools as a living learning lab.
  • Careers in Clean Energy—Careers in clean energy are among the fastest growing in the nation. Explore resources available to educators and students to learn about and get trained for a range of energy jobs and careers.
  • Energy Educator of the Year—KEEP is proud to highlight the outstanding network of educators across Wisconsin, empowering students, teachers and community members to make informed energy choices now and for a sustainable future.
  • Youth and Community Engagement—KEEP provides opportunities for youth through Renew Our Schools, Green Team Mini-Grants, KidWind Challenge, MeterHero and Energy Action Month.
