MGE's purchasing process
MGE is committed to providing safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable energy to our community. Meeting this commitment requires sound procurement policies and practices along with dependable and productive relationships with you, the supplier or contractor. We conduct our purchasing and contracting activities in a manner that will encourage you, as a supplier, to value our business.
MGE's purchasing process is designed to:
- Maintain good business relations with our suppliers
- Promote competitive situations by obtaining quotations for all major purchases
- Purchase on merit to obtain the maximum values for money spent
- Seek out new sources of supply and products
To be considered as a potential supplier, please answer the following questions:
- What products or services do you offer?
- Do you have a sales force calling on customers in Wisconsin? If so, from what location?
- Are you a certified minority supplier? If so, which state certifications do you have?
- Where is your headquarters?
- What are you now selling to other utilities?
- Your name, address and contact information.

MGE will then establish contact if we see an opportunity to do business together.
We select suppliers on the basis of quality, delivery, cost and customer service. Consideration of additional factors, such as experience, availability of materials from stock, warranty policy and financial position, also plays an important role in selection. Small businesses and minority-, women-, veteran- and LGBTQ+ owned businesses with limited experience or financial capability are encouraged to participate in the supply process. MGE selects suppliers who can produce high-quality products and services for the company and its customers. Suppliers who fail to maintain acceptable standards of performance may be removed from the supplier list.
When bidding is used, suppliers will be solicited for sealed bids to ensure the best possible value is obtained. All suppliers or contractors from whom proposals are requested will be provided with identical information on specifications for materials or services. The bid you submit should have a firm price and allow adequate time for a complete evaluation. You are encouraged to submit alternative bids for services, materials or equipment, and they will be evaluated on their merits. They must contain sufficient specifications to permit a fair comparative analysis. All your prices, terms and conditions are confidential and will not be revealed to other suppliers or individuals outside MGE. Once a bid has been selected, specific information concerning other suppliers will not be provided to any bidders, but a general indication of a bidder's competitiveness may be provided if appropriate.

When a supplier receives a purchase order from MGE, the supplier agrees to the MGE Purchase Order Terms and Conditions.

MGE promotes economic development within its service area and throughout Wisconsin by various means, including procurement policies that favor Wisconsin businesses. Whenever other relevant factors are equal, MGE prefers qualified Wisconsin suppliers. We would like all Wisconsin firms to be aware of the opportunity to do business with MGE.
Code of Ethics
As outlined in MGE's Code of Ethics, employees are expected to comply with all laws and regulations and to act in accordance with the highest ethical standards in matters with each other, customers, vendors and those who do business with or seek to do business with MGE. MGE expects all of its suppliers to adhere to MGE's Code of Ethics when conducting business with MGE and when conducting business with third parties on behalf of MGE.

From Chicago: Follow Interstate 90 west to Hwy. 30 west (Exit 138).
From Minneapolis: Follow Interstate 94 east to Hwy. 30 west (Exit 138).
From Milwaukee: Follow Interstate 94 west. Stay straight to Hwy. 30 west (Exit 138).
- From Hwy. 30 west (Exit 138), drive west approximately 3 miles to East Washington Avenue/Hwy. 151 south. This is the next exit past Fair Oaks Avenue. Exit toward the state capitol.
- Continue on East Washington Avenue about 2 miles (to the end of the 1300 Block) to Baldwin Street. Turn left onto South Baldwin Street.
- The MGE Central Stores driveway is on the right side just before the railroad tracks.

Our Central Stores is open for receiving Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Other times available by appointment only.
