Summer 2024

A new Pedal Power bike is available from MGE to help teach our youngest energy users about energy efficiency. The bike allows students to experience firsthand how their energy pedaling can generate electricity to run a blender, create spin art or power a light tower.  

MGE partnered with local schools and educators this spring to introduce the new Pedal Power bike, engaging students in energy education in the following ways:  

• Our Energy Experts visited science classes to integrate the bike and blender into a full 50-minute lesson on using energy in everyday life. Students generated their own power to run the Pedal Power blender to make salsa or smoothies as they learned about energy generation, transmission and distribution. 
• Our team attended Earth Day and Arbor Day events and set up stations for students to learn about different sustainability topics, including energy efficiency, renewable energy and new energy technologies. 
• We engaged with educators and families at local school resource fairs to share information about saving energy while students used their pedal power to illuminate the light tower, which they enthusiastically called a "light saber"! 

Lighting up the tower or blending a smoothie requires teamwork. Some classes cheer on each other! The Pedal Power bike has an adjustable seat that can accommodate students as young as six years old as well as adults.
