Powerline: Partnering in energy education

Spring 2024

Celebrate Earth Day with MGE

Earth Day Every Day Fun Book

April 22 is Earth Day, a day to celebrate and support the environment. Founded in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson, a former Wisconsin governor and senator, the first Earth Day marked the beginning of one of the most successful environmental movements in the world.

MGE educational resources

In celebration of Earth Day, MGE shares our Earth Day Every Day Fun Book and digital resources. Our school partnerships team also visits schools to offer activities to engage and inspire students in sustainability and the wise use of energy.

Our annual Earth Day Every Day Fun Book is an activity and information resource covering a variety of energy and environmental topics, including climate change, electric vehicles (EVs), and solar and wind energy. The book, designed for upper elementary and middle school students, is a great resource for teachers, students, parents, caregivers and youth group leaders to educate about energy. Email us at eduservices@mge.com to request print copies of the Fun Book.

The digital version includes a 4K through third grade section featuring Nelson, a peregrine falcon who helps younger students learn about solar power and EVs. Nelson is named after one of the peregrine falcons that hatched in MGE's nesting box at our downtown Madison Blount Generating Station in 2020.

MGE Earth Day and Arbor Day activities

This year, our school partnerships team will be at Leopold Elementary School and Badger Rock Middle School, among others, engaging students in conservation, renewable energy and more.

MGE also will be at Shorewood Hills Elementary School for Arbor Day. An ISA Certified Arborist from MGE will guide fifth grade students in planting trees around the school grounds and will give a presentation on tree pruning.
