Reasons to Schedule MGE’s Switch to Safety Program

MGE’s Switch to Safety Program is a 40-minute presentation by a former teacher covering indoor and outdoor electric safety scenarios for fourth grade students in MGE’s electric service area.
An elementary school teacher in Middleton who schedules Switch to Safety annually recommends the program for the following reasons:
- Students are at an age where they’re starting to do things for themselves, like cooking. A couple of kids from one class made the comment that they often use a knife in the toaster (but won’t be doing that anymore!).
- Students are old enough to be aware of the danger electricity poses without being scared of it.
- Many kids don’t know what natural gas smells like or that it’s flammable.
- We’re able to share information with parents about electrical issues. It’s not as common as one might think about what not to touch and how to get help.
