Summer 2024
Learning about Sustainability with Food, Art and Fun
Hundreds of local students celebrated this year’s Earth Day and Arbor Day with food, art and MGE’s Pedal Power bike. MGE partnered with Aldo Leopold Elementary School, Nuestro Mundo Community School, Shorewood Hills Elementary School and Badger Rock Middle School to engage students in energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability.
At Badger Rock Middle School, students learned about food and the ways it is produced and processed. With help from local nonprofit Rooted, they identified fruit-bearing trees to plant in the school’s garden.
Students also collaborated with local artist Rodrigo Carapia to create a mural, designed to welcome the community to the new Cora’s Café at the Badger Rock Neighborhood Center. The students also kicked off Asian and Pacific American Heritage month with an Asian-themed recipe using MGE’s Pedal Power bike to blend the ingredients in a fun and eco-friendly way.
MGE Energy Experts helped the students learn about simple actions they can take every day to live more sustainably, such as conserving energy and water and recycling/reusing single-use items. Working with our schools is one of the many ways MGE engages our community in energy and sustainability.
