Investments today can yield a more sustainable tomorrow—launching environmental initiatives, advancing quality health care and building bridges of understanding. MGE has long supported health initiatives that touch many lives—from infants to seniors. We also have funded initiatives to protect our water, air and land as we work to educate the next generation. Environmental progress and a healthier population go hand in hand. We’re dedicated to promoting both in the communities we serve.

Providing critical care for the most vulnerable

Those in our community who are terminally ill and experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity do not currently have a shelter to provide comfort and support their end-of-life needs. Solace Friends, Inc., is working to change that reality. The organization is addressing disparities in end-of-life care by creating a community-supported hospice home. The facility will help residents connect with available hospice services and provide essential support such as housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation and other assistance.

Solace Friends has purchased the former NewBridge home on Monona Drive in Madison and is renovating it to make it more accessible. The new facility will be a neighborhood asset designed to build a sense of community. By offering secure shelter and around-the-clock surrogate family caregiver support, Solace Friends is working to help reduce many of the burdens and barriers hospice staff may face while trying to serve this population, bringing benefits to both care recipients and care providers.
“Solace Friends’ mission is to provide a compassionate and comfortable home to our most vulnerable residents.”

Clean water contributes to a good quality of life. River Alliance of Wisconsin (River Alliance) empowers people to protect and restore water through a variety of ways. It also is committed to being a just, equitable, diverse and inclusive organization that welcomes and works for all people.

Advocacy and empowerment are at the heart of the organization’s mission. It works with groups locally and statewide to protect Wisconsin’s valuable water resources. River Alliance Development Director Karen Anderson believes it’s also important to create partnerships with organizations and businesses that share similar values.

“The MGE Foundation’s focus on improving lives today and lives of future generations by working to preserve the long-term health and vitality of our community aligns with our work to protect, restore and celebrate Wisconsin’s waters,” explained Anderson.

River Alliance also works to connect people to rivers in creative ways. It hosts events such as the Fools’ Flotilla, a free, family-friendly floating parade of canoes, kayaks or anything that floats down Madison’s Yahara River, and the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, a collection of short films featuring stories about protecting clean water resources.
“River Alliance of Wisconsin inspires Wisconsinites to love and protect their water. River Alliance also believes in the power of local leaders to be a voice for water, and we amplify their concerns and hopes to a statewide audience.”
